I have, what I want to say is a small collection of, miscellaneous rusted metal parts from coffee cans to door knobs and many other things that I have found over the past few years.
I was cleaning out one day and came across an old Folger’s coffee can that has an offer with an expiration date on it of 1/1/63. That means this can is most likely from 1962! That is 57 years ago! It is all steel and the label is still in great condition.
Something had to be made with this can without completely destroying it so it became a bird feeder on a birdhouse. I know it won’t last forever in this kind of environment, but it is better than the conditions it was being stored in and it looks great and is now being used and can be enjoyed by all of us and the birds.
One year ago I posted this birdhouse on Instagram with the hashtag #folgers. Because Folgers found that post on Instagram, they asked if they could feature this birdhouse on their website. Heck yeah they can!!
I usually try to include my website address on my photos, especially of projects that I dream up and make, so that when they get shared on social media the web address goes with it. Allowing Folgers to feature it for a few days on their website was free advertising for me. It was a great feeling to me that they liked this enough to feature it.
This birdhouse is a combination of wood and metal and is somewhat architectural in design. The posts are made of scrap rebar. The back has a door to allow for easy cleaning inside the house. The perch is an old dresser knob.
